Job Description: Assist school system in the education, monitoring and control of COVID-19. 

Provide disease prevention information related to COVID-19. 

  • Prepare and assemble educational brochures and other materials related to COVID-19. 

  • Distribute flyers, brochures or other informational or educational documents related to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

  • Advise parents, students and staff of the available COVID-19 resources. 

  • Talk to students, parents or staff regarding COVID-19 control and prevention. 

  • Answer phone calls related to COVID-19. 

  • Identify and contact (by phone or in writing) potential exposures. Provide guidance on CDC guidelines related to testing, isolation and quarantine. 

  • Telephonically monitor students and school staff who are COVID-19 positive. 

  • Collect and maintain data for COVID-19 Incident Log. 

 

Provide on-site assistance with COVID-19 prevention activities. 

  • Assist in ordering and maintaining COVID-19 related supplies as needed. 

  • Provide PPE items to students, parents and staff entering the facility. 

  • Provide temperature screening to individuals who enter the facility. 

  • Clean and sanitize high traffic areas in the facility 

  • Other duties as assigned to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus. 

 

Skills: 

  • Knowledge and experience dealing with the public preferred 

  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required. 

  • Electronic Mail Software 

  • Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel. 

  • General working knowledge of office equipment. 

 

Training and Experience:

The Okefenokee Swamp Park with Okefenokee Adventures mission is to provide visitor access and interpretive education that inspires conservation advocacy for the Okefenokee Swamp. 

 

The Okefenokee Swamp Park sits on 1100 acres in the Dixon Memorial State Forest in Waycross, Georgia with direct access to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge as a key partner and concessionaire.  The Park offers interpretive guided boat tours, wildlife and environmental science education programming, train rides through the swamp, and boasts the tallest tower in the Okefenokee for an unparalleled view. 

 

The Okefenokee is the largest wilderness area in Georgia and the largest National Wildlife Refuge in the eastern U.S.  To see and experience it, you must enter it—most easily by boat.  The “land of trembling earth,” the Okefenokee Swamp encompasses nearly 600 square miles of Clinch, Ware, and Charlton counties in Georgia and Baker County in Florida. Considered the largest blackwater wetland in the U.S., it has been protected by the federal government since 1937, has been named a Wetland of International Importance, designated as a National Natural Landmark and is listed as a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site.

 

Summary of Position: 

This is a non-exempt (hourly) position and based on seasonal needs.  A Groundskeeper/Maintenance crew member is responsible for maintaining and caring for the grounds, boardwalks, exhibit buildings, and outdoor picnic areas.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  1. A well-rounded knowledge of operating and maintaining tools used for groundskeeping (zero turn lawn mower, weedeater, chainsaw, hedger, tractor, etc…)

  2. Ability to address basic plumbing and electrical needs (change out T-12 long bulbs, snake a drain line, fix damaged receptacles…)

  3. Ability to pressure wash.

  4. Maintains all garbage cans on site.

  5. Assists with other projects when required.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Operates various power tools and lawn care equipment safely.

  2. Valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and good driving record.

  3. Will occasionally, lift, carry, push or pull weights up to 60+ lbs.

  4. Walks on various types of terrain in all climate conditions.

  5. Works well as a team member.

  6. Works well with the public.

This is a non-exempt (hourly) position and based on seasonal needs.  An Interpretive Naturalist & Guide at the Okefenokee Swamp Park or Okefenokee Adventures is responsible for providing exciting, safe, and deeply informative outdoor experiences in and around the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge.  An attention to detail with an extreme customer service focus is a requirement for the effective execution of this position.  Guides must abide by the guidelines set by the General Managers (GM) and in alignment with the contractual covenants set by the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge.

 

This position requires an unwavering commitment to professionalism and a thorough and complete understanding of all crisis management, health, and safety protocols.  Guides take visitors on excursions into the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge via motorized boat or canoe/kayak or bike or walking trails.  Guides should develop well-rounded knowledge of flora, fauna, geology, geography, hydrology, general ecology, and fire ecology of the Okefenokee Swamp and surrounding region of the southeastern coastal plain in general, and knowledge of human history of the Okefenokee in particular.  The ability to correctly identify wildlife and plants of the Okefenokee is a must.

 

Guides may provide interpretation while operating a motorized boat or a canoe/kayak and must be able to enhance the visitors’ experience through skilled operation when encountering wildlife (safely maneuvering and positioning the boat for photographs and interpretation).  A variety of weather conditions must be tolerated.  Public speaking skills are a must- guides must be able to comfortably speak to (and answer questions from) the public for the standard tours of up to ninety minute tours, but may occasionally have to give longer educational tours. (OSP has tours of different lengths)  Skillful interpretation, performed in a variety of methods and techniques, is paramount to the visitors’ tour experience to provide a deeply informative and enjoyable experience in the Okefenokee.

 

In addition, this job may require the employee to stand, bend, kneel or lift in the course of their regular job duties.
